At this specific time in our generation, we know that reaching for non-traditional goals and bringing our visions to life is totally acceptable. With people like Richard Branson and Lisa Messenger serving as mentors and totally breaking the rules, we can feel that we’re passed the time when starting our own business or bringing a long time vision of ours to life is frowned upon, at least most of the time. That doesn’t mean that people won’t always support your choices, but we’re definitely in a different era and there’s more potential than ever for success.

So why is it that, if society is putting less pressure on us that many are still not doing anything about the life they truly want? Why are people still settling instead of taking action?

We THINK that it’s the outside world or circumstances beyond our control holding us back from taking these leaps but we are often our biggest barriers. We think that money is an issue, or that our partner won’t agree or that we’re not credible enough to take on the journey towards our goal and dreams. What we don’t realize is that most of the time, all we have to do is get out of our own way. Sounds terrifying right that it’s only really up to us? THAT is why, even though it’s quite acceptable to take the non-traditional route these days, that many people are still in neutral. It’s time my friends to take some overdue action!

For 7 years now I’ve been working with a formula I created when I was working as a Yogatherapist which involves knowing when it’s time to create intention, when it’s time to take action and when it’s time to step back and let go. I call it The art of making things happen through intention, action and letting go (which is the title of my soon to be published book). In any moment of our life one of these 3 things are taking place, sometimes in a very healthy manner and sometimes we are totally imbalanced. When we are still dreaming of what we would like to make happen and not actually doing anything about it, the intention is totally out of balance, meaning we are practicing too much of it. We’re in our heads hoping for our dream life but not taking responsibility for what we want to see happen in our future. Even though we don’t have it all figured out, we just need to start somewhere and take one first step forward. That doesn’t mean you’re throwing yourself out to the sharks. It just means that you’re slowly walking from the beach into the ocean to dip your toes in. You can always come back to shore to rework your intentions if you need. But if you don’t dip your toes in, you’ll never know how the water feels.

Trying to figure it all out from the start is what’s going to keep you stuck in place and what will convince you someday to settle for a life that is not in line with what you are yearning for. There is much to be said for the journey after (which you can go deeper into with my book) but you have to get started somewhere at some point to even give yourself a chance at success and happiness. There’s bumps in the road yes, challenges yes and times where you’ll feel like everything’s falling apart (like most things in life). But I can promise you that when you’re in the flow and things are going great, it’s all worth it for the bumpy times AND it’s 100 x more fulfilling than settling.

On your journey, you’ll have to be creative and intuitive to know when it’s time to craft your plan and create clear intentions, when it’s time to get off the couch and take action and when it’s time to step back, relax and let life do it’s magical work. It’s not rocket science and if I was able to do it, so can you. So just take one step forward and see where that takes you. Pay attention to how you’re feeling in each moment and your gut will most likely tell you what needs to come next.

Cheers to your success and INJOY the journey!
